SAFETY & REPLACEMENT

When to Replace Tyres

Use tread, age, damage, uneven wear, repeated pressure loss and vehicle behaviour to decide when tyres need professional inspection or replacement.

Safety note: tyre fitment and safety decisions depend on the exact vehicle, tyre specification and physical condition. These pages are educational guides, not a remote roadworthiness inspection.

SAFETY & REPLACEMENT

What matters before you make a tyre decision

Tread & wearCheck the whole tread, including inner/outer shoulders. One badly worn area can matter even if the rest looks acceptable.
Age & conditionDate code is one input. Cracking, cuts, bulges, repairs, storage and operating conditions also matter.
Pressure & geometryIncorrect pressure or alignment can accelerate wear and mask the true reason a tyre is deteriorating.
Vehicle specificationReplacement tyres must still meet the exact size/load/speed and manufacturer requirements for the vehicle.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When to Replace Tyres FAQs

Can I decide tyre safety from tread depth alone?

No. Tread is important, but age, sidewall condition, impact damage, repairs, pressure history and uneven wear can also affect whether a tyre should remain in service.

Can Top Point inspect my tyres?

Yes. Top Point can inspect tyre condition and related wheel, alignment and suspension factors at the Turffontein workshop.

Should I use the legal minimum as my replacement target?

A legal threshold is not automatically an ideal safety target for every driving condition. Replace or inspect earlier when condition, damage or performance justifies it.
