TOP POINT VEHICLE GUIDE
What to Do When the Check Engine Light Comes On
A check-engine light can be triggered by many different faults. Diagnostic scanning provides fault information, but the stored code still needs to be interpreted alongside symptoms and testing before parts are replaced.
What you can check safely
- Note when the symptom occurs and whether speed, braking or road surface changes it.
- Check tyre pressures against the vehicle recommendation when tyres are cold.
- Look for obvious tyre damage or warning lights without dismantling components.
- If steering, braking or vehicle stability feels unsafe, avoid unnecessary driving and arrange an inspection.
Top Point can inspect the relevant tyre, alignment, braking, steering, suspension, battery or diagnostic systems at our Turffontein workshop.
